Stamp 0
Americans (and other non-EU citizens) can apply to retire to Ireland as ‘a person of independent means’ – with a verifiable income of at least 50,000 per annum, per person. However, this option does not have a clear path to citizenship as the various work permit options do – and the applications must be made from outside Ireland. It’s also possible to bring an older relative to Ireland on a Stamp 0 permission if you already have permission to live in Ireland yourself (e.g with a Stamp 4 or similar), but approval is not guaranteed, and there are minimum income requirements. Private medical insurance is required in these cases – see our section on Settling In
for more on health care.
